Wanderlei Silva out of UFC 175 bout vs Chael Sonnen. Vitor Belfort in?

Wanderlei

Last month Chael Sonnen said Wanderlei Silva would try to “weasel out” of their UFC 175 bout and it appears he was right. Today Silva was removed from the fight after missing mandatory exams and failing to apply for a licence to fight in Nevada. To add even more fuel to this story, Sonnen told Fox Sports 1 that Silva “literally ran”, and “slipped out the side door of the gym and never returned” when Nevada State Athletic Commission officials approached him for a random drug test.

So the question became, who would Sonnen face?

Well if you’re the over the top daytime soap opera kind of guy you loved the answer. The guy UFC officials are looking at to replace Silva in the fight, Vitor Belfort. Yes the same Vitor Belfort that was supposed to be in the main event of UFC 173. The same Vitor Belfort that withdrew from his title fight with Chris Weidman after the Nevada State Athletic Commission banned TRT.

Additionally, many media outlets are reporting the Sonnen-Belfort fight will take place at 205 pounds, but the winner will be guaranteed a shot at the middleweight title (185lbs). That title will be on the line in the main event of card as Chris Weidman defends again Lyoto Machida.

MMA GEAR: TITLE MMA

TITLE is another company known for it’s products related to combat sports, but most people tend to think of specifically boxing apparel when the name comes up. TITLE also makes a great deal of MMA gear as well. I have recently purchased MMA shorts, training bag, and short sleeve rash guard. The gear is tough and will with stand wear and tear while not breaking your bank. The bag is great I can fit focus mitts, shin guards, head gear, sparring gloves, training shoes, water bottle, and essentially any other training gear I may need into the bag. When I bought it however, it did not come with a shoulder strap so I used one from an older duffle bag. Still a great deal at under $40. The rash guard and shorts together were about another $80, but still not bad for something that will get a lot of use.

MMA OUCH MOMENT: ANDERSON SILVA UFC 168

MMA OUCH MOMENTS

Anderson Silva had high hopes to avenge his one UFC loss to current middle weight champion Chris Weidman. But early in the second round Silva’s dreams got crushed along with his leg when he threw a vicious leg kick which was checked by Weidman and ended up snapping the former champ’s leg in two. The break was a full tibia and fibula break which involved immediate orthopedic surgery after the fight. This certainly marks one of the most painful injuries ever suffered inside the Octagon.

RESULTS: UFC 167 ST. PIERRE Vs HENDRICKS

COMMENTARY:

UFC 167 St Pierre Vs Hendricks was nothing short of exciting and controversial. Rashad and Chael showed up for battle, but Rashad quickly utilized his extraordinary grappling & wrestling skills to get Chael to the ground for a lesson in “Ground N Pound 101” which resulted in a TKO stoppage. Tyron Woodley defeated Josh Koschek with a stunning knockout that brought the audience to it’s feet. But the main event of GSP and Hendricks might have been one of the most controversial fight decisions in recent history. All though the battle lasted the duration of the five rounds with good action throughout, many spectators felt like Hendricks decisively won that fight and was robbed of the title. If the judges were judging via “damage done” criteria, I believe Hendricks should have won that fight as GSP received the worst beating of his professional career. However, when it comes to a championship fight, the challenger HAS to DEFINITIVELY beat the champ via Submission, TKO, or KO as Gustafsson recently discovered first hand in his grueling battle against Jon Jones. GSP retains his title as king of the welter weight division and vaguely announced his retirement from the UFC .
