Jones vs Gustafsson II Likely For UFC 177 In August

JONES VS GUSTAFSSON

With Anderson Silva sidelined with an injury and Georges St. Pierre taking time away from the sport, the biggest fight the UFC could make is Jon Jones vs Alexander Gustafsson II. It now appears we have a date for the highly anticipated rematch. ESPN’s Brett Okamoto was the first to report that the UFC has targeted August 30th in Las Vegas for the rematch.

According to UFC co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta, only Gustafsson has agreed to the bout so far. Fertitta did say he expects Jones to agree to the fight in the next few weeks.

Gustafsson (16-2) lost a close decision to Jones (20-1) at UFC 165 in September. Both fighters are coming off impressive victories. Gustafsson knocked out Jimi Manuwa on March 8th in a bout in London. While Jones is coming off a one-sided victory over Glover Teixeira at UFC 172.

MMA OUCH MOMENTS

JOSH KOSCHECK-UFC 124

AFTER SEVERAL WEEKS OF STRAIGHT TRASH TALKING THE UFC WELTERWEIGHT CHAMP GEORGES ST PIERRE DURING THEIR FILMING OF TUF SEASON 12, JOSH KOSCHECK FINALLY GOT THE CHANCE TO PUT HIS MONEY WHERE HIS MOUTH IS….OR WAS. THE AUDIENCE WASN’T IMPRESSED. GSP OUT GRAPPLED, OUT KICKED, AND OUT PUNCHED KOSCHECK FROM EVERY ANGLE POSSIBLE, LEAVING JOSH WITH A PAINFUL MOMENTO FROM THEIR ENCOUNTER AT THE END OF UFC 124. THE FIGHT WENT DOWN IN MMA HISTORY AS PERHAPS THE MOST “JAB HEAVY” UFC FIGHT EVER AND THE PROOF IS IN THE PUTTING, OR, PERHAPS PUNCHING IN THIS CASE.

ABOUT: Georges St-Pierre, a French-speaking Quebecer, was born on May 19, 1981 in Saint-Isidore, Quebec, to Roland and Pauline St-Pierre. St-Pierre had a difficult childhood, attending a school where others would steal his clothes and money. He started learning Kyokushin karate at age seven from his father and later from a Kyokushin Karate Master to defend himself against a school bully. He took up wrestling and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu after his karate teacher died (at this point he also trained in boxing). Before turning pro as a mixed-martial artist, St-Pierre worked as a bouncer at a Montreal night club in the South Shore called Fuzzy Brossard and as a garbageman for six months to pay for his school fees.
